The independent heating and cooling company across Hampton Roads and coastal Virginia

UV Lights & Ventilation

We install and service ultraviolet (UV) lights and mechanical ventilation for homes across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington DC. Homeowners call us when the air handler smells musty, when humid summers leave the house feeling damp and stale, or when a crawlspace over a high water table keeps pushing moisture into the ducts. Call us and describe what you smell and where, and we will look at the system, the airflow and the moisture source together before recommending anything.

What the job involves

A UV light is mounted inside the air handler or return plenum so it shines on the evaporator coil and the wet surfaces where mold likes to grow. Ventilation work is different. That means bringing in measured fresh air or exhausting stale, humid air so the house is not just recycling the same load all season. Both jobs start with access, wiring by our technician, and a check that the added component does not restrict airflow through the coil or the filter slot.

What we check and install

We look at the coil for biological growth, the drain pan and trap for standing water, the filter fit, and the static pressure the blower is fighting. Then we check duct sealing, return sizing and where the system pulls its air from, because a leaky crawlspace return undoes any air quality upgrade. Depending on that, we install a coil UV lamp, an in-duct lamp, a bath or whole-house exhaust fan, or a balanced ventilator with a fresh air intake.

How we decide it is the right call

UV light helps with what grows on wet surfaces inside the equipment. It does nothing for dust, pollen or an undersized return, so we do not sell it as a cure-all. If the real problem is humidity from the crawlspace, we say so and address the moisture first. Ventilation makes sense in tight homes where cooking, showers and people push humidity and odors higher than the house can shed. We explain which one fits your house and why, then let you decide.

UV Lights & Ventilation — quick answers

Will a UV light fix a musty smell from my vents?

Sometimes. If the smell comes from growth on the wet evaporator coil, UV helps keep it clear. If it comes from a damp crawlspace or a clogged drain, we fix that first or the smell returns.

How often does a UV lamp need replacing?

Most lamps lose output after about a year of running, even though they still glow. We check the lamp during maintenance visits and tell you when the bulb is due, along with the quartz sleeve if it is dirty.

Does adding ventilation make my cooling bill worse?

Uncontrolled outside air can add humidity load. That is why we size ventilation to the house and use controls, and in humid coastal and inland summers we often pair it with dehumidification rather than an open intake.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and what the thermostat reads against the actual room temperature. That short conversation tells us what parts to load on the truck.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. You get a plain explanation of what failed and why, before any work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system through a full cycle and measure temperatures at the supply and return. If something upstream caused the failure, we tell you so it does not repeat.

Why homeowners call us

  • We know salt airCoastal homes lose condenser coils to salt corrosion years before inland systems do. We look for fin damage and pitted line sets on every visit, because a clean-looking unit can still be shedding capacity from the outside in.
  • Humidity is part of the jobHurricane-season air loads a system in ways a temperature reading will not show. If your house feels clammy at 74 degrees, we look at run times, airflow and drainage rather than just adding refrigerant and leaving.
  • Crawlspace realitiesHigh water tables mean wet ground under ductwork, rusted plenums and condensate lines with nowhere good to drain. We check what is happening under the floor, since that is often where comfort problems actually begin.
  • Straight answersWe tell you what failed, what it will take to fix, and whether a repair makes sense on an older system. No pressure to replace something that has honest years left in it, and no vague diagnosis.
  • All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York and the rest.
  • Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
