What refrigerant leak repair actually involves
We start by confirming the charge is genuinely low, because a dirty filter or a blocked coil can copy the same symptoms. Once low charge is confirmed, we search the system for the leak using electronic detection, soap solution on joints, or dye when the leak is slow and hiding. Then we repair or replace the failed section, pull a vacuum to remove air and moisture, and weigh in the correct charge. Guessing at a top-off just puts you back in the same spot next season.
Where we look and what we replace
Evaporator coils, brazed joints, service valves, Schrader cores and the line set through the crawlspace are the usual suspects. In coastal areas salt air chews at copper and thin aluminum fins, and damp crawlspaces with a high water table speed up corrosion on line sets and fittings. We replace failed cores and valves, repair accessible joints, and quote a coil or line set when the metal is too far gone. We also check the indoor coil for corrosion that will leak again soon.
How we decide repair is the right call
We weigh where the leak is, what the repair costs against the age of the equipment, and what refrigerant the system uses. A leaking Schrader core on a newer AC is a quick fix. A pinholed evaporator coil in an older system running a phased-out refrigerant often makes replacement the better spend. We tell you what we found, show you the reading, and give you both paths. You decide, and we do not pressure a sale on the spot.

Can you just add refrigerant and skip the leak search?
We can, but the refrigerant leaves the same way it left before, and you pay again. A top-off buys weeks or a season at best. Finding the leak is the only fix that holds.
Is a refrigerant leak dangerous to my family?
Refrigerant in a home AC is generally low risk in open air, but a large leak in a tight space displaces oxygen. Do not touch refrigerant lines yourself. Shut the system off and call us.
Why does ice form when refrigerant is low?
Low charge drops pressure in the evaporator coil, the coil runs colder than design, and moisture freezes on it. That ice blocks airflow and makes the cooling worse. Turn the system off and let it thaw.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and what the thermostat reads against the actual room temperature. That short conversation tells us what parts to load on the truck.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. You get a plain explanation of what failed and why, before any work starts.
- Step 3
Repair and verify
We make the repair, then run the system through a full cycle and measure temperatures at the supply and return. If something upstream caused the failure, we tell you so it does not repeat.

Why homeowners call us
- We know salt airCoastal homes lose condenser coils to salt corrosion years before inland systems do. We look for fin damage and pitted line sets on every visit, because a clean-looking unit can still be shedding capacity from the outside in.
- Humidity is part of the jobHurricane-season air loads a system in ways a temperature reading will not show. If your house feels clammy at 74 degrees, we look at run times, airflow and drainage rather than just adding refrigerant and leaving.
- Crawlspace realitiesHigh water tables mean wet ground under ductwork, rusted plenums and condensate lines with nowhere good to drain. We check what is happening under the floor, since that is often where comfort problems actually begin.
- Straight answersWe tell you what failed, what it will take to fix, and whether a repair makes sense on an older system. No pressure to replace something that has honest years left in it, and no vague diagnosis.
- All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York and the rest.
- Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
